I think that I may say this for every stage of the construction process, but the framing of the house is incredibly exciting. This is the stage where the home that you have envisioned really starts to take form. It allows you to see the layout and the shape of your home.
I was so excited to see our home actually taking shape that I visited the site almost weekly to see how things were going. Its hard to believe how quickly they progressed with this stage of construction. The three pictures below are all of the front of the house and they are each approximately a week apart.
The framing of our home essentially consisted of two parts, the exterior and the interior framing. All in all, the framing took about a month.
Once the interior frame was in, it was exciting to have a walk through our new home and really envision the rooms. Some of the rooms seemed so much bigger than I thought they would be, while others seemed smaller. There were also some spaces that I wasn't completely sure what it was going to be (a hidden closet perhaps)?
The above picture is the interior of the house where the kitchen will ultimately be. That seemingly out of place frame in the middle of the floor is where our kitchen island will ultimately be placed (and where an air vent will also be). Below is the framed our basement. Because it is a little darker in the basement, this space seemed much smaller that I thought it would be during the framing stage, but according to the plans the space in the basement will actually be bigger than our living area upstairs (which is quite big) so I am excited to see how it ends up.
These last pictures are of our bedroom and the master bathroom and walk in closet. These spaces also seemed to be so much smaller than I expected during the framing stage, but I know they will have ample room. I am extremely excited for our walk-in closet. I haven't had one before and I can't wait to actually be able to organize my clothing (although I can't promise it will stay organized or tidy - whoops).
With the framing just about done, the next stage of construction will be the installation of our roof and windows, and covering the outside of the home to make it waterproof while work continues inside.
