I do think that the only real way to get a feel for what a house will look like is by walking through it and getting a feel for it. But I think that the floor plans give a great idea on where we are headed and lets you imagine what it will look like when its done. I have also only shared the builders sale images that are available publicly online, as I am not actually sure whether I can share the actual building plans and pictures that we received from them.
I am incredibly grateful for the model home and that the builder had a home built in the exact plan that we were considering. I don't think I would have been able to make a final call on this floor layout based purely on plans. Walking through the home really allowed me to get a feel for the space and whether it would work for us. I have actually walked the model home at least 30 times already.
The picture above is an artists impression of what our new home will kinds sorta look like. We have chosen different colors (grays, white and navy) and a few different finishes, but it gives you a good idea.
So this is the layout of our first (ground) floor. Ours is actually the mirror image of this, so the garage will be more to the left and everything else will be flipped. As with many new home builders, there were a number of optional extras we were able to choose before the building process started. From a structural perspective on this floor, we went with a covered porch off of the family room, a fireplace in the family room, French doors into the study and open stair railings.
Next up is our second floor. Again, this is the mirror image of ours (which will be flipped). We didn't take any of the structural upgrades available for this floor, as it suited our needs perfectly.
Finally, this is going to be our basement (well sort of). This is actually where we spent most of our upgrade money. We will be doing an extended finished basement, so that area that says "storage space" will become a bedroom and bathroom, and the area that says "crawl space" (cutting it off in the right hand corner to make a perfect rectangle) will be a living area.
There is just tooo much excitement around this house build. Coming up next on our new home build blog, I will be sharing with you the design choices we made for the interior of our home (wow that was a crazy process), as well as pouring of the foundation and framing.
